Background:

The U.S. Department of Transportation FY24 Safe Streets and Roads for All grant provides funding for demonstration activities to address safety issues on Seminole County roadways. This is a joint effort between Seminole County and the University of Central Florida (UCF) to build upon the Vision Zero Action Plan (VZAP) currently being developed by MetroPlan Orlando.  The County's VZAP is expected to be completed by July 2024.  This grant will fund various planning and demonstration activities to improve safety on rural, suburban, and urban roadways identified as High Injury Networks (HIN) and intersections in the VZAP.  UCF will take the lead in planning while the County contributes towards the installation of equipment to support various solutions and countermeasures.  This is a new grant program for the County.

The grant requires a 20% matching funds with UCF requesting $2.794 Federal funding and will allocate $698,886 matching funds.  The County will seek $1,000,000 of Federal funding and will provide 20% matching funds of $200,000 which is available in the existing traffic project budgets.
