Background:
The Fleet & Facilities Department is requesting to replace a boiler at the jail that has reached end of life and is due for replacement. The current boiler has been serviced multiple times to keep it operational and is running at 50 to 70% of system capacity. In addition, the boiler has a storage tank that is leaking and unrepairable causing higher than average water costs. It is essential for the boiler to be replaced so that staff and inmates still receive proper hygienic care. Generally, boilers have a 10 to 12-year life expectancy. The last boiler was replaced in 2009. To fund this project, Facilities has available funds within the Constitutional Planned Work Program (CIP# 01902004). The attached BAR will transfer funds from this project to the Jail Boiler Replacement Project (CIP# 02412002). There will be no impact to General Fund reserves.
Requested Action:
Staff requests the Board approve and authorize the Chairman to execute a Resolution implementing Budget Amendment Request (BAR) #24-055 in the Facilities Maintenance Fund to transfer $403,040 of existing budget for the Jail Boiler Replacement Project.
