Background:
The large size and remote nature of Natural Land sites, present staff with the difficult task of managing both the acceptable and undesirable activities that may occur. It is the intent of the caretaker program to assist and augment County staff’s efforts to effectively manage the use and possible misuse of these important ecological resources, thus providing a well-managed and safe environment for the enjoyment of all visitors. The Caretaker provides a continuous, visible presence to deter misuse and provide regular feedback on any conditions or issues that may require staff attention. They also provide light maintenance such as trash pick-up, mowing, trail clearing, cleaning of kiosks, restocking of trail guides and assisting visitors as needed. The agreement with the current resident Mr. Nicholas McClelland, expires February 25, 2023 and the Natural Lands Program wishes to enter into a new three-year agreement with Mr. McClelland.
