Background:
Chapter 20 (Animals and Fowl) Part 4 (Backyard Chicken Program) of the Seminole County Code of Ordinances was created to implement a Backyard Chicken Program to permit the keeping of chickens on occupied single-family lots located in the unincorporated areas of the County, and included criteria for obtaining the permit, in addition to other general criteria.
The Seminole County Land Development Code was amended on January 9, 2024, to allow backyard chickens by right in residential zoning districts, without a permit, if certain conditions are met. Due to the amendment to the Land Development Code, the Backyard Chicken Program is no longer necessary and no longer in place.
This Ordinance is necessary to be consistent with the Land Development Code.
Requested Action:
Staff requests the Board adopt the Ordinance repealing Ordinances 2016-22 and 2018-20 and deleting Part 4 (Backyard Chicken Program) in its entirety, Chapter 20 (Animals and Fowl) of the Seminole County Code.
