Background:

Seminole County entered into a five-year Interlocal Agreement for Medical Examiner Services with the District 24 Counties (Lake, Marion, Hernando, Sumter & Citrus Counties) on September 27, 2024. Section 6. of the current Interlocal Agreement   outlines Seminole County’s specific responsibilities under the agreement, including separate funding responsibility for the hiring and training of Seminole investigators, transport services, indigent care, and cremation services.

Medicus Forensics, P.A., is the company contracted with Districts 5 & 24 to perform medical examiner services. At a regular meeting of the Medical Examiner Advisory Committee, it was discovered that Medicus Forensics was not applying Section 6. of the Interlocal Agreement as contemplated under the agreement. Specifically, the investigative, transport, and cremation services for Seminole County were being administered in the same manner as the District 24 Counties. This does not align with the current contract language, and therefore this amendment was proposed to align the contractual language with current Medicus Forensics practices.

It is to the public’s benefit and best interest to enter this First Amendment to the Interlocal Agreement for Cost Share of Medical Examiner Services and Other Related Matters.
