Background:

Pursuant to Chapter 406, Florida Statutes, a board of county commissioners may, by resolution, prescribe policies and procedures for the burial or cremation of indigent people whose death occurred, or whose remains were found, in the county. In Seminole County, the Community Services Department is tasked with managing the disposition of the remains of indigent people.

To facilitate this process, Community Services seeks to amend Section 12.5 (Burials and Cremations) in order to remove the fee schedule cap imposed on local funeral home providers and instead establish a process whereby fee caps are memorialized in the individual contracts with the providers.

Requested Action:

Staff requests the Board approve and authorize the Chairman to execute the Resolution to adopt the changes to Section 12.5 of the Seminole County Administrative Code (Burials and Cremations).
