Background:

Florida is eligible to participate in the $774 million national opioid settlement framework finalized by Albertsons Companies, Inc. Under this nationwide framework, funds are distributed to states and political subdivisions (such as counties and municipalities) that choose to join the agreement during designated sign-on periods. To participate, an authorized representative of Seminole County Board of County Commissioners must sign the Participation Form. Our outside counsel has recommended that Seminole County elect to participate in this settlement and allow Romano Law Group to file the document on behalf of Seminole County.

Community Services concurs with the recommendation from the Romano Law Group to Participate in the Albertsons Companies Inc. settlement to maximize the funds available to Seminole County and use the funds to expand substance use disorder mitigation services to Seminole County residents.

Requested Action:

Staff requests the Board approve and authorize the Chairman to sign the Albertsons Companies, Inc. Participation form via Docusign and authorize the Romano Law Group to file the document on behalf of Seminole County.
