Background:

Seminole County was asked to participate in a study led by the Florida Gulf Coast University’s Water School to help identify potential regional projects to satisfy Florida Statute 403.0673, a water quality improvement grant program.

The purpose of this project is for FGCU to gather data related to water quality projects across Florida to identify and analyze potential regional projects. FGCU will collect data directly from city and county entities across the state to categorize, quantify and report information relevant to water quality projects to gain a deeper understanding of the types of regional water quality improvement projects that the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) can support via funding and permitting. As a participant, Seminole County will provide FGCU with information about past, present, and future water quality improvement projects and FGCU will compensate the County $10,000 to offset the estimated staff time necessary to compile and submit the project information. The deadline for submission is December 31, 2024.

Requested Action:

Staff requests the Board retroactively approve the County Manager’s authorization to enter into this agreement with the Florida Gulf Coast University to participate in the study to identify and analyze potential regional water quality improvement projects.
