Background:

A new proposed national opioid settlement has been reached with Purdue (and certain of its affiliates) and the Sackler family. Seminole County was notified by outside counsel, Romano Law Group, of action needed to participate in the opioid settlement with Purdue, affiliates and the Sackler Family.  To participate, an authorized representative of Seminole County Board of County Commissioners must sign the Participation Form and return it by September 30, 2025. Our outside counsel has recommended that Seminole County elect to participate in this settlement and allow Romano Law Group to file the document on behalf of Seminole County.

Community Services concurs with the recommendation from the Romano Law Group to Participate in the Purdue/Sackler settlement to maximize the funds available to Seminole County and use the funds to expand substance use disorder mitigation services to Seminole County residents.

Requested Action:

Staff requests the Board approve and authorize the Chairman to sign the Purdue/Sackler Settlement Participation form, entitled ‘EXHIBIT K Subdivision Participation and Release Form’, and authorize the Romano Law Group to file the document on behalf of Seminole County.
