Background:
The Midway Trail is part of the broader Midway Drainage Improvement Project, which originated from the 2021 Midway Basin Study. The study identified opportunities to not only improve stormwater infrastructure but also enhance recreational amenities within the Midway community. The trail project was developed to complement the drainage improvements by creating a destination-quality, multi-use trail that provides residents with safe pedestrian and bicycle connectivity while enhancing access to the restored stormwater facilities and surrounding neighborhoods.
The multi-use trail will include recreational elements such as a fishing pier, fitness equipment, benches, landscaping, and extensive tree and sod installations. Additional work includes construction of drainage infrastructure, riprap stabilization, and other improvements necessary to support both recreational use and long-term maintenance of the corridor. Construction is anticipated to begin in August 2026, with substantial completion expected in March 2027 and final completion in April 2027.
The Midway Trail Project Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) proposal for construction totals $2,203,665. $1,240,015 is currently budgeted in the Major Projects Fund. BAR 26-042 establishes an additional $700,000 from 11580 - 2024 Infrastructure Sales Tax Fund reserves, and $263,652 from the completed 02407089 Trails Safety project in the 11560 - 2014 Infrastructure Sales Tax Fund. Approximately $460,568 has been expended on land acquisition and engineering services.
2024 Infrastructure Sales Tax Fund Reserves are currently budgeted at $34 million.
