Background:
Fleet Operations is requesting to replace a tire machine that is used for removing, replacing, and repairing large vehicle tires. The current tire machine is over 20 years old and has had a critical failure of the electrical system and the parts are no longer available to repair the equipment.
With the tire machine out of service, productivity of the tire technician is cut in half. Instead of replacing up to 20 tires a day, the technician can only replace 8 to 10 tires by using prybars and a sledgehammer. This is manual and puts the technician at risk of back injury.
To fund this new request, Fleet Operations has cost savings within the Fleet Shop Air Compressors Project (CIP#02407021). There will be no impact to General Fund reserves. The quote for the tire machine is attached to this agenda item.

Staff requests the Board approve and authorize the Chairman to execute a Resolution implementing Budget Amendment Request (BAR) #24-065 in the Fleet Replacement Fund to transfer $16,707 of existing budget to purchase a new tire machine for Fleet Operations.
