Background:
The U.S. Department of Transportation has released its FY26 Safe Street and Roads for All grant funding which allows for implementation grants that follow the MetroPlan Vision Zero Action Plan. Implementation grants can request up to $10 million of Federal funding with a local match of 20%. Seminole County’s application will emphasize the County as one of the leading maintaining agencies in the State with an excellent partnering relationship with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
Seminole County’s application will be used for upgrading traffic signals in Seminole County with the latest technology to improve safety and reduce crashes throughout the County. Seminole County’s infrastructure has served as a testbed for numerous TSM&O/ITS technology deployments over the years. Seminole County also has the knowledge and expertise to manage a large-scale equipment deployment project. In addition to our own signals, we maintain all FDOT, City, School Board and private signals in the County creating a border-free environment with no jurisdictional complications. The grant funding will purchase and install Connected Vehicle Roadside Units (RSU), Intersection Movement Cameras (IMCs), CCTV Cameras, and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs) for intersections in Seminole County. On 4/23/26 Seminole County’s Citizen Academy presented the attached flyer for our citizens to give feedback for this grant project as the Public Engagement requirement for the grant.
