Background:
Local Law Enforcement Trust Fund:
Donations to Local Support Organizations:
The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office believes a key component of crime prevention and safe neighborhoods is ensuring community-based support systems are in place to provide educational, rehabilitative, and skill development resources to at-risk populations and those in need. The Sheriff’s Office would like to provide Local Law Enforcement Trust funding in Fiscal Year 2024/25 to the listed support organizations providing essential assistance and services throughout the community. Additional funding has been designated as Sheriff’s Discretionary awards to provide support to various organizations throughout the year through direct request and approval by the Sheriff.
Agency Wellness, Training and Peer Support Program:
The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to supporting the overall well-being of our members. Mental health is as essential as physical health for law enforcement personnel to be effective in keeping our communities safe from crime and violence. This new program will:
• Empower agency personnel with cutting-edge resources, evidence-based training and secure communication.
• Enhance peer support practices for a supportive network to help agency personnel manage their well-being and navigate difficult situations.
• Provide proactive performance-accelerating solutions to address wellness, performance and challenges, thereby resulting in a sustainable and resilient workforce.
The unencumbered Local Law Enforcement Trust Fund balance as of September 30, 2024, is approximately $814,000.
This request complies with Chapter 932.7055, Florida State Statutes.
Federal Law Enforcement Trust Fund:
The Federal Equitable Sharing Program for federal forfeitures administered by the US Departments of Justice and Treasury require federal forfeitures funds be approved through budget appropriation in a similar manner to local forfeiture funds. Due to this requirement, the Sheriff’s Office requests the Board to appropriate $290,400 from Federal Law Enforcement Trust funding for Fiscal Year 2024/25 for law enforcement expenditures deemed permissible under the program.
The unencumbered Federal Law Enforcement Trust Fund balance as of September 30, 2024 is approximately $290,400 consisting of approximately $287,000 related to US Department of Justice and $3,400 related to US Department of Treasury.
