Background:
In 2006/2007 Seminole County Office of Emergency Management was instrumental in obtaining a 1-meg generator for Highlands Elementary School for the purpose of housing individuals with special needs during hurricanes and other events. The request came after the multiple hurricanes in 2004, and the gap identified with emergency power at shelters. Highlands Elementary serves as one of the special-needs shelters during disaster events.
Earlier this year, the School Board of Seminole County facilitated annual inspections of generators. It was discovered the generator at Highland Elementary requires replacement of the sub-base fuel tank. This Budget Amendment Request (BAR) will transfer funds from reserves to provide the School Board funding for approximately half the cost to replace the sub-base fuel tank.
General Fund Reserves are currently budgeted at $59.9 M.
