Background:

In August 2023, Habitat for Humanity of Seminole County and Greater Apopka Inc. acquired eighteen single-family lots located at W 25th Street and Sarita Street Sanford Florida, 32773. Habitat for Humanity plans to combine these lots to create a subdivision that will consist of nineteen single-family homes, with ten of these homes being partially financed by Seminole County.

Habitat for Humanity has requested support from the County to assist with the vertical construction phase for ten homes within this housing project. The funding designated for Habitat for Humanity is essential to advancing this initiative.

In accordance with the Attainable Housing Strategic Plan, Seminole County aims to enhance the availability of affordable and workforce housing. To support this initiative, Community Services staff recommends allocating $853,116.00 from the General Housing Trust fund as outlined in Ordinance 2021-14.

Requested Action:

Staff requests the Board approve and authorize the Chairman to execute the funding agreement for $853,116.00 from the General Housing Trust Fund (Ordinance 2021-14) to support Habitat for Humanity of Seminole County and Greater Apopka Inc. with the vertical construction of ten affordable homes within a nineteen-unit subdivision located in Seminole County and any amendments or other related documents.
