Background:

The 18th Circuit Court Adult Drug Court Program requests the County’s support to meet grant eligibility requirements for funding opportunities from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance to enhance Treatment Court Services. The official announcements are anticipated for release in August.  Recent federal grant trends indicate a short turnaround (3 weeks) time between notification and application deadline.

The grants provide funding for up to four years, with awards of up to $1,500,000. If awarded, Seminole County will utilize the enhancement grant funds to expand recovery services in the Adult Drug Court program by increasing case management capacity, communication between the Jail and Courthouse, and treatment options. Seminole County received this grant in FY 2017, FY 2020, and FY 2024.

In addition, a new Family Court grant opportunity will support the implementation of the Family Treatment Court - a first for Seminole County. This grant would fund one new full-time Senior Case Manager position and support treatment services for participants.

The grants require 25% cash match or in-kind contributions. Seminole County’s match would be provided through personnel support from the 18th Circuit Court and the County, including the Problem-Solving Courts Manager, State Attorney, and presiding Judge.
