Background:

A new national opioid settlement has been reached with six regional distributors/dispenser defendants (Remnant Defendants Settlement), which include: Associated Pharmacies, Inc. (and American Associated Pharmacies); JM Smith Corp; Louisiana Wholesale Drug Company, Inc.; Morris and Dickson Co.; North Carolina Mutual Wholesale Drug Company, Inc; and United Natural Foods, Inc. (including its subsidiaries SuperValu and Advantage Logistics).

Seminole County was notified by outside counsel, Romano Law Group, of action needed to participate in the Remnant Defendants Settlement. To participate, an authorized representative of Seminole County Board of County Commissioners must sign the Participation Form and return it via Docusign. Our outside counsel has recommended that Seminole County elect to participate in this settlement.

Community Services concurs with the recommendation from the Romano Law Group to Participate in the Remnant Defendant Settlement to maximize the funds available to Seminole County and use the funds to expand substance use disorder mitigation services to Seminole County residents.

Requested Action:

Staff requests the Board ratify the Chairman’s execution of the Combined Subdivision Participation and Release Form to participate in a new national opioid settlement with six regional distributors/dispenser defendants (Remnant Defendants Settlement).
