Background:
In December of 2021, Seminole County acquired the Wekiva Golf Course. At that time, a list of projects was identified that included replacing the irrigation system and renovating the cart barn, along with others necessary for stabilizing the property. This BAR would create the Wekiva Golf Course Project Family and consist of the currently approved projects: 02204041 Wekiva Property Acquisition, both phases of the irrigation replacement (02304039, 02404054), 02304045 Parking Lot Lighting, and 02304054 Entrance project, and 02404066 Cart Barn project funded through BAR #24-076. The Property Acquisition project is included because funding was allocated there for the septic to sewer conversion, which is still in progress. As additional projects are created and approved, they will also become part of the project family.
Renovations to the cart barn were identified at acquisition due to the structural conditions of the building and surrounding work area. The work to the cart barn will include repairs to the roof and siding, replacement of the lean-to roof, replacement of the security fence around the cart area, and replacement of the concrete under the lean-to.
The booster pump with a filtration system was not anticipated but is needed to ensure the proper pressure required to manage a system of this size is always available. We are currently experiencing a trend with municipalities dialing back on the supply of reclaimed water during peak seasons, which is becoming more frequent due to demand. Without adequate pressure, we will not get the proper sprinkler coverage the system was designed for. The included filtration system will also help protect the irrigation system from debris and unwanted particles from the local reclaim water system, reducing future costs for repairs and replacements.
The Wekiva Property Acquisition business unit has $141k available, which is not needed for the septic-to-sewer conversion. The other stabilization items funded through this business unit, such as the cart path repairs and tree work, have been completed.
Wekiva Golf Course Fund Reserves are currently budgeted at $512,211.
