Background:
Traffic Engineering recently performed a competitive solicitation to rebid the County’s primary contract used to perform signal work within the County. Work under this contract includes new installation, span wire conversions, and maintenance of existing mast arms. Costs for labor and materials increased significantly over the previous contract, which was executed in 2020. There are several active Board approved Mast Arm projects, which were budgeted based on the previous contract pricing and need to be increased. The following projects need additional funding:
In addition, Traffic Engineering is requesting to establish a new Fiber project along US 17-92 from Lake Triplet Rd to SR436. The current fiber optic network attachment along this roadway is in violation according to the National Joint Utilities Notification System (NJUNS) and Duke Energy is requesting for the County to remove the attachment from their pole. This project will remove it and place the fiber underground which will remove the violations and provide protection against future wind/storm damages.
The attached BAR will transfer $774K from existing completed/deferred projects and $1.7M from reserves. 2014 Infrastructure Sales Tax reserves are currently budgeted at $8.7M. A list of these projects affected by this BAR is included in the attached cost table.
