Background:
Applications are being accepted by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), which is an agency of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), in support of the SAMHSA Treatment Drug Courts program, which is a fiscal year 2024 initiative. This program aims to enhance rehabilitation support services and treatment for substance use disorders (SUDs) within existing drug courts. The grant will be renewable for a period of five years, with an annual maximum of $400,000, for a grand total of $2,000,000.
Four primary strategies will be implemented by Seminole County to support the expansion of the existing Adult Drug Court. 1) Increase enrollees with greater risk and greater need; 2) expand services to include participants with misdemeanors; 3) provide a veteran's court mentor coordinator; and 4) assign an outside assessor who will offer progress findings and offer recommendations for program enhancements utilizing data finding by the State Attorney's office.
To accommodate the Program’s anticipated expansion, the new grant would maintain the current 1.0 full-time position funded through the existing grant as well as increase the current part-time position to a full-time position through the grant. Therefore, this new grant award would result in a 0.5 increase to the County’s total Full Time Equivalent (FTE) count. The SAMHSA Treatment Drug Court grant does not require a match for the grant.
