Background:
On January 9, 2024, Traffic Engineering gave an update to the Board on the Traffic Calming Program, including the impact on the Fire Department response times and a revised evaluation process. This revised evaluation process includes a phased approach to reducing speed through the use of non-restrictive measures (signage, radar feedback signs, striping, etc.) first and leading to the evaluation of the feasibility of implementing restrictive measures (speed cushions or other Traffic Calming devices) if speeding issues still remain. Administrative Code Section 22.10 Municipal Service Benefit Unit (MSBU) Program - Inclusion of Traffic Calming Devices is also being revised on this agenda to accommodate the Traffic Engineering process for Traffic Calming Devices.
Requested Action:
Staff requests the Board approve and authorize the Chairman to execute a Resolution amending the Seminole County Administrative Code by revising the criteria by which Traffic Calming Devices are designed and installed on County roadways in Section 34.35 (Traffic Calming Devices).
